EXPERIENCE

Poor Yorick // Freelance Creative Director // 2018 - Present // NYC

  • Just me, but shorter-term freelancing and medium-term contracting. Stops include: 72andSunny, The Many, B-Reel, Razorfish, Code and Theory, Product Inc., Hawkfish LLC, Hill Holliday, Cheil N.A. | Samsung Brand Studio, Havas, Tilt, Candy, Fluid, kovel/fuller, and Engine.

  • Laser-focused on working with brands that want to think and act big (the NFL), that want to go against the grain (Taco Bell), and that aim for better (Mike Bloomberg 2020 Presidential campaign).

VaynerMedia // Creative Director // 2018 - 2020 // NYC

  • Led, served, and hired cross-functional creative teams of 4-10 on brand storytelling initiatives for Social AOR clients including Mtn Dew, Comcast, Kraft, Mondelēz (Chips Ahoy!, Sour Patch Kids, belVita, Trident), and Scotts/MiracleGro.

  • Flexed my (criminally underused) data analysis muscles to help implement real-time creative and media recommendations for big Mtn Dew brand campaigns all the way down to in-the-moment Chips Ahoy! community management decisions (we went viral once I shit you not!).

Carrot—the VICE Digital Agency// Creative Director // 2017 - 2018 // Brooklyn NY

  • Hired and managed creative and editorial teams of a dozen or more on digitally-focused content and activations for Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s, NASCAR, Hoegaarden, New York Yankees, and OneTaste Orgasmic Meditation (yes I worked on a cult before we knew it was a cult) accounts.

  • Pored through mountains of psychosocial research and data alongside strategy head to help steer the Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s brand from sexist and bro-ish towards something much more palatable (literally and figuratively).

  • Refined the art of the pitch—and won a handful of new business—while pitching for the woefully-undermanned Carrot softball team.

Huge // Associate Creative Director // 2013-2017 // Brooklyn NY

  • Received a “digital Master’s degree” as I got the opportunity to shift focus (for a while) from above-the-line creative ideation and execution to more digitally-focused content, website and UX writing, strategy-ing, and producing.

FCB Global // Writer // 2012 // Irvine CA

  • Worked in a writer/art director team to produce nationally-televised Taco Bell and Petco TVC and the standard above the line stuff down in faraway Irvine CA.

  • Routinely, and successfully, presented concepts, scripts, and cuts to internal teams and external clients all while building and nurturing relationships across the board.

  • Thrived in a highly-competitive creative environment where my partner and I won the opportunity to produce three high-profile national TV spots for Taco Bell over the course of less than a year—including for the launch of the uber-popular Doritos Locos Taco.

Dentsu // Writer // 2011 - 2012 // Santa Monica CA

  • Made engaging 360 content for such disparate clients as Union Bank of California, American Licorice, Hass Avocados, Toyota, Microsoft, Canon, and Hästens.

  • Got my first taste of production-on-a-budget and figured out how to really stretch a dollar while still creating engaging and premium content.

INNOCEAN // Writer (Freelance) // 2011 // Huntington Beach CA

  1. My first freelance/contract opportunity was an amazing one, and allowed me to experiment with how to create much more sales-focused TV and radio content on behalf of Hyundai retailers and dealers on short deadlines.

  • Continued to hone my production skills by playing an integral role in live auto-focused shoots and by serving as lead creative from ideation and script-writing through pre- (casting, location scouting) and post-production (VO recording, editing, coloring).

  • Gained confidence in my skills as a writer—learning how to create unique voices and tones while staying true to the brand I’m being paid to tell stories for.

RPA // Jr Writer // 2006 — 2010 // Santa Monica CA

  • Cut my teeth on national Honda TVC (and all other above the line stuff), Acura, SOYJOY, and La-Z-Boy accounts while figuring out how to work with, and build relationships with, non-Creative team members.

  • Learned the value that comes with supporting others as I filled out timesheets, submitted expense reports, and completed awards submissions for senior creative team members while simultaneously learning creative and production processes on the job.
